about me

I am a Mexican-Persian ceramic artist whose work is rooted in experiences of womanhood and cultural liminality. As someone who has existed between many worlds, my approach to clay is largely informed by my unique cultural positionality and the personal impacts of excavating a sense of belonging. Using clay, I create objects that act as functional sites for cultural fusion, connection, and reconciliation. To achieve this in my work, I focus specifically on objects that hold things, both physically and metaphorically, alongside surface decoration. My carving and painting techniques evoke the craft traditions I am inspired by, such as tattooing, to create and recreate bold nostalgic imagery that investigates the connections between body, place, and memory. Through this process, I connect seemingly disparate individual and collective experiences, linking ancient artifact and ancestral protection with contemporary experiences of girlhood and womanhood. These concepts are explored in my work while injecting a playful approach rooted in the agency inherent in the modification of the surface of a vessel: bodily, ceramic, or otherwise.
